With an open mind
This tour is inspired by the ‘Visual Thinking Strategies’ method.
Together with the students, you will view and discuss several artworks with an open mind. Above all, the guide is a moderator. There is room for questions and doubt. There is never a wrong answer. Different people have different views of art. Everyone views it through their own frame of reference and in the light of unique experiences. Perhaps another person’s vision might change your mind? Or can you build further on what someone else has to say? You get far more out of an artwork as a group than you would alone!
This method is inspired by ‘Visual Thinking Strategies’, developed by MoMA in New York. Because visitors tend to remember less from a guided tour when the information is insufficiently linked to their experiences, we depart from personal contributions rather than a guide’s pre-existing knowledge. Everyone can participate in the discussion, regardless of their education and cultural background, as no prior knowledge is required. By naming what you see, you look more attentively. By hearing different visions, you broaden your gaze.
