Transformation of Mu.ZEE
In 2025, Mu.ZEE will close for a major renovation of the main museum halls. This exhibition provides an overview of the design process, conducted in collaboration with the Mu.ZEE team. Instead of presenting a final product, fragments of the process are displayed, including conceptual sketches, exploratory models, and images that showcase the various ways in which the design team worked together. This team, led by the architectural collectives Assemble, Czvek Rigby, and Felix & Partners, faced the challenge of understanding and valorizing the existing museum, a complex of three interconnected buildings with different functions. This collaborative process highlights the integration of heritage with contemporary design, creating a museum that is both a heritage site and a vibrant public space.
The exhibition serves as a precursor to the future renovation and offers a space where adjustments, new proposals, and interventions can continue to take place before the museum closes its doors in January 2025. A series of events will be organized to provide visitors with more in-depth and comprehensive knowledge about the transformation of Mu.ZEE, made possible by the museum’s staff.
Made possible by and with the support of Czvek Rigby, Assemble, Felix & Partners (architecture); Mouton (structural engineer); Ingenium (technical engineer); Daidalos Peutz (building physics and acoustics); Department of Culture, Youth, and Media Flanders; Mu.ZEE.
This exhibition is on view on the 2B floor.
